THE SARAH HOUSE

Recently I traveled to California to visit my children and had the peace of knowing my Mother was in very capable and compassionate hands. I moved her from an Assisted Living Facility to the Sarah House which is a 6 bedroom residence with 24 hour staff so my Mother has all of the comforts of her own home without the hazards and loneliness. She and her roommates eat three home made meals every day, take walks in the quiet neighborhood, exercise at the YMCA three times a week-always with the assistance of a "helper". When they're at home, they share stories, dance, play games—if they care to. If not, there is a lovely parlor if they just want to relax.

The house itself is immaculate, bright and cheerful—just like my mother and her companions when I go to visit. None of the caregivers or owners live in the house—every activity is designed solely for the benefit, comfort and care of the residents so they never feel like an intruder or a patient.

Shoshi is extraordinarily attentive to the needs of her residents and goes beyond what is required when screening her assistants. She has always been available, reassuring and optimistic whenever I've called her about my Mother. I have great confidence in her and in each of the personally selected caregivers at The Sarah House.

Recognizing the progression of my Mother's dementia and the heartache of accepting that / cannot give her everything she needs has been extremely painful. I looked at every private and corporate assisted living facility in our area—many of which I left in tears— some I wouldn't even get out of the car to enter. When I take my mother home after our visit and pull out of The Sarah House driveway, I feel enormous gratitude that my mother is not only well cared for—she is loved, and that is worth more than I can measure.
